The Virginia Creeper Trail was one of the first Rails-to-Trails projects (opened in 1987) and continues to bring visitors from all across the country to beautiful southwestern Virginia (SWVA). Southwestern Virginia is a great place for a relaxing getaway or an outdoor adventure. Centrally located, the Va Creeper Trail is close to many excellent outdoor adventures across the region. Whether you are interested in hiking the Appalachian Trail to see the wild ponies, paddling and fishing the numerous streams and rivers, bouldering or birding in some of the most scenic areas in the world you will find endless outdoor experiences in SWVA. In addition to its beauty and adventure, Southwest Virginia is also known for its hospitality and its traditional mountain music scene.
